The power of grit and tenacity: How the Arrowhead Tribal team transformed opportunity into results

One way Arrowhead Tribal stays connected to Native American schools is by attending the annual Native American Schools Insurance Program (NASIP) conference. Run by The Mahoney Group, the event is aimed at helping Native American school administrators better protect their campuses, employees and students. It also provides additional resources like risk management, safety and educational classes to enhance their institutions.

At the recent NASIP conference, Arrowhead Tribal attendees Tiffany Poletti – Tribal program leader; Michael Ogle – Tribal Underwriter and Leeanna Kersey – Tribal Underwriter and Marketing Communications lead, got an amazing opportunity to showcase their commitment to the Native American schools they underwrite and support. With their partners at The Mahoney Group, Arrowhead, a gold sponsor of the event, underwrites and insures many Native American schools, including colleges, high schools and universities.

Valuable connection at the NASIP conference

The connection began when Tiffany, Michael and Leeanna attended the NASIP vendor dinner, where they were introduced to representatives from a tribal college considering joining the Native American Schools Insurance Program. They listened to their needs and the challenges they were facing related to their insurance coverage. The college representatives wanted to know why they should consider having their own policy for their tribal college. The team described that each policy comes with its own unique circumstances, which requires careful consideration of all variables and factors involved. Leeanna shared that this in-person meeting was invaluable for gathering those details and allowed the team to share the ‘why’ behind it and the benefits that come along with joining the schools program.

Arrowhead gathered information and were able to put together an indication on the spot, thanks to the combined efforts of their in-person team and the amazing support team working behind the scenes remotely. As a result, they presented a solution that met the needs of the college, and the representatives agreed to move forward. This was a significant win for The Mahoney Group, Arrowhead General Insurance Agency and the tribal school.

What stood out in this success story was how the Arrowhead Tribal team gets work done – embracing the opportunity with grit and tenacity. The team’s dedication to providing personalized customer service and navigating complex challenges was key to achieving this significant win. According to Leeanna, “We achieved success because we listened to their unique challenges and understood their goals. It’s rare for Tribal underwriters to sit down with the tribe, but we embraced the opportunity, even if it meant missing part of the conference to find a solution. The personalized customer service we provided was worth it, as we were able to build trust that goes beyond a policy. Our partners’ help in navigating this and providing a personalized solution was key, and it was a wonderful experience for everyone involved.”

Michael also shared his experience, saying, “I really enjoyed being able to network at this conference! It was an excellent experience and only helped strengthen our partnership with The Mahoney Group. It was an honor to meet with the tribe and work with them in real time to provide an indication and earn their business.”

Leeanna added, “This was such a fun and incredible day to see how all hands were on deck to partner with the tribe, our agency partners and our teammates to make this such a success story. It was truly a major highlight of the event, showcasing how our team works and operates at Arrowhead Tribal.” Guided by its mission: To protect Native American tribes with solutions that respect sovereignty, support progress and reflect the complexities woven into every tribal community, Arrowhead Tribal showed its commitment to Native American schools and as a team, were able to demonstrate true creativity when providing a tailored solution for a specific Native American tribal college.
